Invasive species

  • Clearing invasive plants

Cherry laurel, rhododendron, snow-berry and Himalayan balsam have spread aggressively in parts of the woodlands we manage, crowding out native plants and reducing wildlife habitat. We work to eradicate the invaders, and then replant cleared areas with native species.

LCW is working in the Ty’r Ash wood, Crickhowell in partnership with specialist team from Bannau Brychieniog to eradicate Himalyan Balsam a invasive non-native species (INNS).  We are asking the community to get involved  with a  ‘pull and drop off’ project. This is our fourth year of involving the community in looking after their local places for nature and the response has been encouraging and the results rewarding.
